‘Meet Ups’ What are they? An opportunity for a small group of U supporters to share why higher education is critical to our state’s future and share the personal impact of that education on them, their families and their community. Why ‘Meet Ups’? Many supporters find it easier to talk with their legislators if they are with someone they already know. Meeting in small groups also uses legislator’s time more efficiently. Legislators have told us one of the most important pieces of information in making decisions at the capitol is hearing from constituents what their priorities are and why. What is the Timeline? In order for the information to be most effective, we suggest ‘Meet Ups’ take place by April 17. Most legislators are in their home district over the Easter break which is the week of April 6-12. When? You set up a date and time that works for everyone involved. The meeting can take as little as 15 minutes to as much as one hour. Where? Any good place to talk will work. It could be a local cafe, the legislator’s office, your place of business, a library etc. What is your role?
What is the University’s role?
You don't need to be an expert on the U--all you need to do is make a sincere and courteous appeal based on your personal appreciation for the U in your district. We’ve suggested some communities as a point of reference but the visit can take place anywhere.
